50% Malbec, 50% Petit Verdot

The Petit Verdot and Malbec are both planted planted in our Home block right on the Ironstone/laterite ridge that runs in an East West direction to the back of the property. The ability of this block to showcase the terroir in the resulting wine is outstanding. The topsoil varies across this block from fertile karri loam to a gravelly sandy loam, dig down 30cm and the laterite begins, rock upon rock. The physical slope coupled with the gravelly nature of this block ensure it is very free draining, small, concentrated berries are the result. The vines have a North South orientation ensuring that they get ample sunlight during the ripening period. This is the boldest wine that we produce, it’s dark and inky with aromas of blackberries, cassis and prunes complemented by lifted floral notes, dark chocolate, cigar box,  tobacco leaf and sage. An incredibly complex and highly intriguing nose that will see you uncovering yet another nuance every time you come back to it. On the palate it opens with rich dark berry fruit, chocolate subtle and well-integrated cedary oak, but also evokes images of fine, dusty tannins and black olive tapenade as it lingers on the palate. This blend is beautifully structured and balanced. Cellar to 2038.
