“The 2023 Petit Lot Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the dry-grown Home Block, on the western side of Caves Road in Margaret River. The vines run north to south and are Poussard-trained, on an ironstone/laterite ridge that rises in the middle of the property. The fruit is handpicked, fermented in a mixture of barrel and clay using wild yeasts. One of the things I really love about the Windows Estate wines—the list is long—is the sense of natural acidity. The wines are juicy and crystalline and purity abounds. Here, that attribute is on show. While the oak plays a role at this stage, the texture is creamy and fine, and the length through the finish is impressive. You get salted white peach, fresh green grass, lemongrass, shaved fennel, scratched lime and little pockets of finger-lime electricity in the mouth with an intensity of flavor, balance and engaging texture. This producer comes highly recommended.” 94/100 Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate
This wine is our somewhat more layered and complex take on Margaret River’s classic white blend. As the dominant variety, Semillon makes up 68% proportion of the blend. The focus with this wine is on picking the grapes when the vineyard’s canopy is in good condition and the juice’s natural acidity still high. The Semillon component comes from our main vineyard planted on an Ironstone/laterite ridge and contributes beautiful grassy, citrus characters to the blend. The Sauvignon Blanc (27%) on the other hand was grown in soil with a greater clay/quartz component, providing fresh and zesty aromatics and a mineral acidity to the final blend. A small proportion of Chardonnay (3%) brings an unapparelled degree of depth. All components have been fermented with natural yeasts and racked to new French barriques for 11 months, providing a texture and complexity to the wine, whilst still delivering a freshness on the mid palate. A complex textural wine that will age gracefully for 5+ years and will develop richness, and a subtle toasty quality with time in the bottle.
